We have Kashmir White granite installed on our kitchen countertops. It is a month old. The contractor sealed it once with Aqua Mix Sealer`s Choice 15 Gold water-based sealer. We had water and other liquids leaving spots on the tile so I sealed it 3 more times per the container instructions. We still had spotting. Yesterday the contractor sealed the counters with carnauba car wax. It sure is shiny but I still see spotting in some areas. Should we have not used a water-based product with this granite which is more porous than some of the darker granites? Do we need to start over with another scheme?

My company does finish carpentry in the Columbus, Ohio area. We are experiencing a growing group of customers who want to incorporate granite and marble into their homes. I would like to find a book with fairly detailed color pictures of the different stone options to show customers. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you, Jeff Hilson

We are considering Venetian Gold countertops. Should we pick out the slab or leave it to the fabricator. It will be sealed, will that stop the absorbtion and staining. Also we are going with the travertine flooring is that for a kitchen?

We have just built a new home with lots of blue pearl granite countertops. They look lovely. Should I apply a sealer? What should I use to clean them? Are there cleaners I should avoid?

I have had a new granite countertop in my kitchen for about 1 year and now want to reseal it. It was installed and sealed originally by a professional. The commercially available granite sealers recommend removing the existing sealer before applying. This seems extreme to undergo every year. Other people tell me you just clean the countertop real well with soap and water and then apply new sealer. Your advice please. Also, where can you get GCC and GCS?

We are designing an office building that is clad in Serpentino Classico. The stone should have three different colour shades. Those are achieved by different surface treatment: honing, sandblasting and... Could you please recommend surface treatment that brings the shade in bewteen sandblasted (very light green) and honed (dark green). The colour should be close to that of rivergreen standstone (czech stone). Thank you!

We are building a new house and recently had The Stone Source, Jackson, MS install "golden leaf" granite. I was horrified to see over 30 splotches on the island alone, with many more on the adjacent countertops. Nothing like these circles was on the sample supplied to me. Did I get "seconds" or is this natural to "Golden Leaf"? How hard/pourous in this particular granite? What should it be sealed with? Will I have to reseal it often? Can I roll out dough on the surface or will it absorb grease, once it is sealed?

Question posted in 2002-11-23 08:34:43 by Annie Chui on «Maintenance problems»
I wish I had read your website before installing our honed absolute black granite countertop in our kitchen which was recommended by our designer. In addition to high maintenance, there are a lot of streaks left on the surface after sealing the stone. Is there any way to ask a professional stone restorer to polish the stone to a shiny finish in this stage?
Thanks!
